History
Paniolo
Paniolo (pronounced pah-nee-oh-lo) is a word with deep roots in Hawaiʻi. The paniolo tradition began in the 1800s when skilled Mexican vaqueros arrived in the islands and helped shape what became a uniquely Hawaiian style of ranching and horsemanship. Over time, paniolo became known for their discipline, craftsmanship, and connection to the land. It represents a lifestyle grounded in simplicity, respect, and hard work.
What Paniolo Means to Us
For us, paniolo is more of a spirit than a title. We’re not Hawaiian, but living here as students has taught us to appreciate the stories, values, and people that make Hawaiʻi what it is. What stands out to us is the mix of ruggedness, humility, and quiet confidence within paniolo culture. We’re not trying to claim it or recreate it. We simply want to honor the values we’ve learned from being part of this community: showing respect, working hard, staying grounded, and taking care of what’s around you. Paniolo reflects those principles in how we approach skincare, keeping things natural, straightforward, and made with intention.
